    Mali was a forerunner of RESAOLAB. In 2005, the Mérieux Foundation began working with the Ministry of Health of Mali to develop a network of laboratories as part of the ACTION BIOMALI program financed by the European Union.

    Achievements

    Renovation of training centers

    In 2010, the Mérieux Foundation carried out several training center renovation projects: regional hospital laboratories in Mopti and Kayes, the National Training Institute in Health Sciences in Sikasso and Kayes, the National External Quality Assessment Unit at the National Institute of Public Health Research. The renovation project in Kayes was carried out with the support of the Department of International Cooperation of the Principality of Monaco.

    Bachelor in Applied Medical Biology (BAMS)

    To sharpen the knowledge and practical skills of lab technicians in West Africa, the Bachelor in Applied Medical Biology was introduced in 2007. To date, more than 200 West African lab technicians have been trained. The course was developed by the Mérieux Foundation in partnership with the School of Biology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology (ESTBB) of the Catholic University of Lyon. Every year, several scholarships are awarded to Malian students. At the beginning of the 2018 academic year, BAMS will officially become a Master’s program at the University of Bamako.
