The Directorate of Pharmacy, Medicine and Laboratories in Lomé was inaugurated on February 17, 2017 with many leading figures in clinical biology and project partners in attendance.
The new Directorate will improve laboratory supervision and coordination of clinical biology laboratories in Togo, controlling the quality of laboratory analyses and personnel training. One part of the building is devoted to a center for external quality assessment and continuous training of clinical biology lab technicians. It includes a classroom, a multimedia room and two practical work rooms.
As the project manager, the Mérieux Foundation contributed expertise for the construction of the building and worksite supervision, working with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. RESAOLAB provided support to improve initial training conditions in Togo through the renovation of work rooms within the Faculty of Health Science and the School for Higher Education in Biology and Food Techniques, both institutions being part of the University of Lomé. The renovation ensures that some 100 students will enjoy better learning conditions during their training.
