    2nd Regional WARDS workshop

This was the second year in a row that the RESAOLAB technical workshop and the WARDS (West African Regional Disease Surveillance) regional workshop were organized jointly as the two programs deepen their collaboration.

The workshop was organized in two parts. After the opening ceremony, the first sessions focused on key topics such as: implementation of the WARDS project; organization of the regional center for disease surveillance and control; and suggestions for regional laboratory policies. The second part was devoted to exploring ways to further develop RESAOLAB technical workshops.

This joint meeting between two public health initiatives brought together the leaders of laboratory services in the 15 ECOWAS countries, giving them an opportunity to discuss national and regional issues faced by biomedical laboratories and the development of harmonized laboratory policies at the regional level.

The WARDS project strives to improve disease surveillance and response in the 15 ECOWAS member states.
